We recently went to Illinois to visit Matt's family. A couple family members weren't able to come to the wedding, so we went to them! It was nice, also, to spend time with those who were at the wedding, as we weren't able to really sit down and talk to them during that time.
Matt's mom has two sisters, and they each have kids and families. I have new aunts and cousins and uncles and friends! It was really fun! They're of German descent (correct me if I'm wrong) and the aunt's house we stayed with had all these adorable touches throughout - even the door hinges were detailed. I love stuff like that.
We went to Oktoberfest, which was so funny. Lots of dancing and yelling and drinking (the crowd as a whole, not just family!). I learned some kind of chant, but I have no idea what I was saying. It was very festive. And the food was awesome.
We went with Matt's cousin, Chad (who was also the best man in our wedding), in a small Cessna. He took us to lunch. Like, flew us there. Matt flew for a bit, I even tried flying for a bit, and then Chad tried to kill us. Not really, but it was fun and scary!
We had a big family lunch one of the days, and it was so neat to see everyone all together. Cousins, aunts, everyone! And the food, again, was awesome.
What lovely people. I must say that. Excellent, kind people. I'm so grateful this is my new extended family. They were so hospitable and gracious. It was nice to not feel like an outsider, even though this is my first "family time" with them.
I took a few pictures of the trip. Click here for the album.

Thanks for the details. I had no idea you rode in a Cessna! Cool.
And you are a sexy runner in your hot pink top! :)
