Yesterday was all kinds of fun in Unwinville. It started with an innocent bottle of water, no different from all the other innocent bottles of water. I drank it.
Then I peed.
Then I flushed. (Naturally.)
Then the toilet flushed itself again.
Before finishing the first flush.
Then it flushed itself again.
And again.
"Matt, is that toilet still running?"
"I think so."
[Libby gets up an heads for the hallway.]
Splash, splash.
"Oh my gosh.... There's a lake in the bathroom! And the hallway! And the bedroom! Molly, get out of the house!"
"Turn off the water!"
[Libby wades through 1" of toilet water to the valve and shuts it off.]
43 towels and half an hour later, we had our house back.
But then there was a noise. A strange noise. Heard through all the land. And the house went cold. Frigid, even.
"Matt, where's the heat? I think this thermostat is wrong."
"Yeah, seems cold..."
The water from the toilet had gone down the vent in the floor and into the furnace under the house. It wasn't a ton of water, so far as Matt could tell, but it was enough to make the furnace completely inoperable. No heat. We closed the bedroom door and turned on the space heater. It was fine for the night, but the rest of the house morphed into a refrigerator overnight. Awesome.
I don't know if it was Valentine's Day or the pain in the butt, but something kept our landlord from responding until this morning at about 7am. Still no fix to the furnace in sight.
I'm going to stop drinking water.

Ugh, that really sucks. I'm sorry. At least your landlord will have to fix it, though! I always loved being able to have someone else pay for things to get fixed...hehe.
Well, yes, provided he a.) cares and b.) responds (in no particular order). Both seem to be relatively challenging.
