And of course, I don't want to just run to Pottery Barn or Target and grab a packaged room and call it done, oh no. I want to design the fabric and the walls and every square inch. Nothing out of the box for me, oh no.
Since we found out the boyness of the baby, we've been dealing mostly with Missy, so thoughts of decorating The Room have taken a backseat. I'll admit, there was one hour or so I was contemplating a quick trip to Babies 'R' Us or Target to just grab it and get it done. But now that the grief is shrinking down a bit, my creative brain is a-buzzin'!
I'm not committing to this, but I'm thinking teal + olive + silver. Maybe. I really don't like brown, but it seems to be everywhere in baby stuff. I guess black is too... black? Eddie Bauer has some cute accessories that incorporate black. I love black as a base for just about everything, so maybe using silver and soft baby blue alongside it will help. Here's some fabric I did recently with those colors:
I'm also thinking robots or tinker toys or something build-y or tech-y. But then I'll baby it up a bit so it's not so industrial. We shall see. ANYTHING but animals and pastels. Barf.

"Anything but animals and pastels." Totally agree. Knowing what I know now, I'd've done the nursery totally different with our first. And actually, we did zero with our second (ended up being co-sleeping-types so we just kept the guest room intact), so there's that.
But I like your designs. Your kiddo's room will be fab.
